Biography

Douglas Boyd was born in Canada and spent his childhood in British Columbia before moving with his family to Phoenix, Arizona. During high school his art teacher recognized his talent for drawing and painting. She suggested he apply to the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles.

He successfully applied to Art Center and graduated with an honors degree in Industrial Design. Boyd accepted a position at Ford Motor Co as an automotive designer in the Lincoln Mercury studio.

Work at Ford was interrupted by service in the Air Force and then National Guard in California. During his enlistment he was assigned to paint portraits of the pilots and their jets. Several paintings were selected and included in the Smithsonian, in Washington D.C.

Residing in California, Boyd began painting and illustrating for advertising agencies and music companies. The company grew into a full service creative agency serving large corporations, in the U.S., Europe and Asia.

Douglas has served on the boards of several public companies. He returned to Art Center College to serve on the Board of Trustees. Now retired, he has returned to his love of painting. His focus is using oil paint to capture landscape and portraits of people usually, friends.

Douglas is married and living in California with his wife, and 2 Jack Russell terriers.
